Straighten your hair
How To Straighten Your Hair
So, do you want to straighten your curls? Here's how:
* Wash and condition hair.
* Blot dry. Hair should be almost dry when you begin.
* Gather up hair into several sections and secure or clip hair on top of your head. You will be drying the bottom layers first.
* Follow the brush (with your dryer) down the sections of hair as you straighten each section and be sure to keep the dryer moving.
* Take down a new section of hair and procede as directed above.
* Work your way up the layers until all sections are dried and straightened.
* To curl the ends for a polished look, take your brush and pull the ends under. Finish your styling with a blast of cool air if your hairdryer has this capability.
Tips:
* Be sure to condition your hair often. Sun, cold temperatures plus the use of your hair dryer can be hard on your hair.
* For best results, use products formulated for your hair type. It does make a difference.
* Give your hair a break and allow it to dry naturally as often as possible.
* Have split ends snipped every six weeks to two months to ensure that they don't travel up the hair shaft
Get rid of pimples
CLEAN! Wash your face with a gentle, oil- and fragrance-free cleanser; preferably a nondetergent one labeled pH balanced.
If you have oily skin all over your face, use a cleanser that contains benzoil peroxide or salicylic acid.
Don't scrub - irritated skin swells around the pores, which can cause breakouts.Skip toner unless your face is very oily, otherwise it might dry out the skin.
TREAT! Apply a topical acne treatment containing benzoyl peroxide, glycolic acid, or salicylic acid over your entire face, not just where blemishes have already erupted.
At night, use a drying spot-treatment product and dab oil-free moisturizer on dry areas.
In the morning, apply an oil-free sunscreen gel over the entire face.
CONCEAL! Use a small makeup brush to dab concealer or cream foundation (in the exact same shade as your skin) directly onto the blemish.
Use a fingertip to wipe away excess concealer around the blemish and, if necessary, apply another coat of concealer.
If the makeup becomes cakey, carefully wipe it off and start over. gently brush powder (in the exact same shade as your skin) on top of the concealer.
Tricks Of The Trade:
* If you have oily skin and feel that you need toner, apply it only on the T-zone, and rinse it off afterward (leaving it on can dry the skin). Use a clay mask as often as every three days to absorb excess oil.
* To stop redness and swelling in an emergency situation (job interview, wedding), ask your doctor for a cortisone injection. It calms down a pimple almost instantly.
* If you can't get to your dermatologist (or needles make you squemish), temporarily reduce redness and swelling by dabbing on a drop of drugstore cortisone cream, Preparation H, or Vasocon-A eyedrops.
Keeping Skin Oil-Free All Day
To keep skin oil-free and shine-free all day:
STEP:1 Cleanse your face every morning and evening. When cleansing at night, use a makeup remover before cleansing.
Tip: If your skin is oily, use witch hazel after cleansing. If you have oily skin, you might not need to moisturize daily. However, if your cleanser dries your skin, use a light, oil-free moisturizer.
STEP:2 Cover your blemishes with concealer.
You might need two different colors of concealer: one for the hairline and one for the cheeks.
One shade should match your skin tone exactly; the other should be slightly darker for covering redness and blemishes (to make the covered blemishes appear more natural and blend better with your skin tone).
Tip: If your skin is oily and blemished, you may need additional coverage from your makeup. Invest in a top-quality oil-free foundation. Even though you may require a lot of coverage, don't use a heavy coat of foundation; use it only to even out your skin tone.
STEP:3 Set your face with colorless, oil-free powder.
Tip: When touching up during the day, first blot the skin with oil-blotting paper (always blot your face before applying another coat of powder or the powder will appear thick and heavy). During the day, use the same sheer powder for touch-ups.
If you use a compact press powder, store the puff facing the mirror (away from the makeup) so the oil from the puff doesn't mix with the powder.
Wash the puff weekly with water and mild shampoo to keep it oil- and bacteria-free.
Tip: If you experience consistent acne problems, see a dermatologist. Fortunately, acne is considered a medical, not a cosmetic, condition, and many acne prescriptions are covered by health insurance
Lipstick Tips and Tricks
Follow these lipstick tips & tricks and you'll save money, you'll look prettier & your lipstick will last longer.
Tip #1: Store lipstick in the fridge. It will last weeks longer.
Tip #2: Never use a tester on your lips. It's just plain unhygienic. Instead, test lipstick on your fingertips. It's a closer fit to your lips than the back of your hand.
Tip #3: Use liner on your lips as a base. Lipstick will last longer if you fill in your lips with the liner first. If you're using light lipstick, try a nude liner.
Then slick your lipstick on top.
Tip #4: Don't skip the liner. Without the prerequisite liner, your lips will look "smudgier" according to Berg, softer & less defined.
Tip #5: Keep lipstick off your teeth with this trick. This is a trick I learned years ago from my mom. After applying lipstick, take your index finger & pop it in your mouth, then pull it out. The excess lipstick will come off on your finger rather than your teeth.
Tip #6: Lipstick can act as a blush. But never use blush as a lipstick.
Tip #7: Apply liner first. Lipstick tends to feather if you apply liner second. Also, you won't be able to see the natural line of your lips if you apply lipstick first.
Tip #8: The older you are, the 'creamier' your lips should look. Women over 50 should avoid matte or a gloss and stick with a creamy lipstick.
Tip #9: Don't throw out a bad color lipstick. Beauty editors know you can create a great lipcolor by combining lipsticks you don't like. You can also color in lips with a darker liner before applying a lipstick that's too bright.
Tip #10: For 'plump' lips, apply liner just outside your natural lipline. 'Nuff said.
Tip #11: Keep lip gloss on longer with liner. Lip gloss is infamous for wearing off fast, but if you fill in lips first with the liner, the gloss has something to stick to.
Tip #12: Heal -- don't throw out -- a broken lipstick. If your lipstick breaks off, simply take off the broken portion with a tissue, then slowly wave a lit match under the broken piece of lipstick. When it's melted a bit, put it back on the base, swivel it down and put it in the fridge -- uncovered -- for 5 minutes.
Tip #13: Avoid orange or brown shades. They tend to make teeth appear yellow.
Tip #14: Save the last bits. Down to the last bit of you favorite lipstick? There's plenty more at the bottom of your tube. Scrape out the last bits with a cotton swap or orange stick & mix it with Vaseline or lip gloss in a lipstick palette.
Tip #15: Keep lipstick off glass. Discreetly lick the lip of the glass before touching your lips to it. It works!
EXERCISE FOR RELAXATION
Ease your body into these stretches: you should not be jumping or bouncing around, and the exercises are not supposed to be uncomfortable.
Remember to breathe slowly and rhythmically too.
The positions should be held for at least 10 seconds, but if you want to increase your flexibility, stretch the major muscle groups for a minimum of 30 seconds.
As well as helping your body to relax by reducing muscle tension, these stretch exercises can be done to increase flexibility or to ease muscles, or cool down after exercising.
Abdominal breathing is the key here.
This allows you to take air deep into your lungs.
When you breathe deeply, blood is able to carry oxygen more efficiently to all parts of your body.
Keep Your Skin Healthy
The best way to keep your skin healthy is to avoid sun exposure.
Stay out of the sun. Avoid the sun between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. This is when the sun’s UV rays are strongest.
Don’t be fooled by cloudy skies. Harmful rays pass through clouds. UV radiation also can pass through water, so don’t assume you’re safe if you’re in the water and feeling cool.
Use sunscreen.
Sunscreens are rated in strength according to a sun protection factor (SPF), which ranges from 2 to 30 or higher.
A higher number means longer protection. Buy products with an SPF number of 15 or higher.
Also look for products whose label says: broad spectrum (meaning they protect against both types of harmful sun rays — UVA and UVB) and water resistant (meaning they stay on your skin longer, even if you get wet or sweat a lot). Remember to reapply the lotion as needed.
Wear protective clothing. A hat with a wide brim shades your neck, ears, eyes, and head. Look for sunglasses with a label saying the glasses block 99 to 100 percent of the sun’s rays. Wear loose, lightweight, long-sleeved shirts and long pants or long skirts when in the sun.
Avoid artificial tanning.
Don’t use sunlamps and tanning beds, as well as tanning pills and tanning makeup.
Tanning pills have a color additive that turns your skin orange after you take them. The FDA has approved this color additive for coloring foods but not for tanning the skin. The large amount of color additive in tanning pills may be harmful.
Tanning make-up products are not suntan lotions and will not protect your skin from the sun.
Check your skin often. Look for changes in the size, shape, color, or feel of birthmarks, moles, and spots. If you find any changes that worry you, see a doctor. The American Academy of Dermatology suggests that older, fair-skinned people have a yearly skin check by a doctor as part of a regular physical exam
Whiteheads
Like blackheads, these are caused by accumulation of hardened sebum or oils, in the pores of the skin.
The difference is that in areas where the skin is fine and delicate, the clogged grease is not exposed to air.
Oxidization does not take place and does not darken the tips as on case of blackheads.
The white heads appear in the form of tiny, pearly, white raised spots.
They are common on the area just above the cheekbone, nose, or where the skin is fine.
On oily skins, they may appear as a part of a "problem skin condition",
with blackheads, pimples and acne.
Deep pore cleansing with beauty grains helps to discourage them.
The mixture of beauty grains and skin tonic is rubbed gently on the affected areas, before being rinsed off with water. The gentle dermabrasive action discourages their formation and also helps to dislodge them after a period of time.
White heads should never be removed forcibly, even with a blackhead extractor.
In case of white heads, or milia, as they are called, the pore is not open.
Forcible removal will only damage skin tissue and cause infection.
With external care, you should include adequate amounts of fresh fruits and vegetables in your daily diet.
Drink plenty of water and fresh fruit juices.
A glass of warm water with the juice of lemon, helps to cleanse the body of toxic residues and improve the elimination of waste.
Skin Care and Aging
Dry Skin and Itching
Many older people suffer from dry skin, particularly on their lower legs, elbows, and forearms. The skin feels rough and scaly and often is accompanied by a distressing, intense itchiness.
Low humidity — caused by overheating during the winter and air conditioning during the summer — contributes to dryness and itching. The loss of sweat and oil glands as you age also may worsen dry skin. Anything that further dries your skin — such as overuse of soaps, antiperspirants, perfumes, or hot baths — will make the problem worse. Dehydration, sun exposure, smoking, and stress also may cause dry skin.
Dry skin itches because it is irritated easily. If your skin is very dry and itchy, see a doctor. Dry skin and itching can affect your sleep, cause irritability, or be a symptom of a disease. For example, diabetes and kidney disease can cause itching. Some medicines make the itchiness worse.
The most common treatment for dry skin is the use of moisturizers to reduce water loss and soothe the skin. Moisturizers come in several forms — ointments, creams, and lotions.
Ointments are mixtures of water in oil, usually either lanolin or petrolatum. Creams are preparations of oil in water, which is the main ingredient. Creams must be applied more often than ointments to be most effective. Lotions contain powder crystals dissolved in water, again the main ingredient.
Because of their high water content, they feel cool on the skin and don’t leave the skin feeling greasy. Although they are easy to apply and may be more pleasing than ointments and creams, lotions don’t have the same protective qualities. You may need to apply them frequently to relieve the signs and symptoms of dryness. Moisturizers should be used indefinitely to prevent recurrence of dry skin.
A humidifier can add moisture to the air. Bathing less often and using milder soaps also can help relieve dry skin. Warm water is less irritating to dry skin than hot water.

Shiny, healthy hair is a reflection of a healthy body, so it's like two for the price of one. Just like your body, your hair needs a balanced, nutritious diet to stay healthy. So follow this recipe for healthier hair, and be amazed at the difference it makes!
Water
Water makes up one-fourth of the weight of a strand of hair.
Moisture makes the hair supple, so make sure you get plenty of fluids. A key point is NOT to wait until you're thirsty.
If you're thirsty, it means your body has already lost more water than it should have, and it's urging you to fill up the tank. Water not only hydrates your body, but helps keep your hair silky and shiny. Ideally, you should drink between eight and ten glasses of water a day.
Protein
Protein is the building block of hair, so a diet for healthy hair contains an awful lot of protein! Protein will give the shaft of your hair more strength, and will reduce the likelihood of dame through snapping and splitting. You can get protein from foods like fish, meat, milk, cheese and cereals.
Minerals
Iron helps to carry oxygen to the hair. Without enough iron, hair and its follicles get starved of oxygen. This means that the ‘goodness’ in the root of your hair is much less effective along the length of the strand. You can increase your iron intake by eating red meat and dark green vegetables, or by iron supplements.
Zinc builds hair protein which helps to prevent hair loss. Meat and seafood are the foods highest in zinc.
Copper is involved in the pigmentation of hair. You can optimize your natural color with a diet with plenty of copper. Who needs hair dye and fake color! Shellfish, liver, fresh vegetables, nuts, seeds and meat are all high in copper.
Vitamins
Vitamin A will give you a healthy scalp, because it’s great for the skin! You can get vitamin A from foods like vegetables - in particular, in carrots. (So it’s good for the waistline too!)
Vitamin B and C are important for good circulation, hair growth and hair color. If you ensure that you have enough vitamin B and C, you’ll have strong, supple strands of hair that do not split. You can get these vitamins from eating foods like fruit, vegetables, cereals, eggs, milk and bread.
So follow this healthy guide…
be sure to add in a hefty dose of daily exercise to keep that blood pumping… then add proper hair care on the surface! Go ahead! Try it!
Soon enough you'll be turning down offers to do shampoo commercials!

BLACKHEADS
Blackheads named for their typically dark color, are considered an open comedo.
The color of the blackhead is not caused by dirt, but by excess skin pigment, debris and skin particles.
The secretions are called sebum and this oil drains into hair follicles.
The sebum typically hardens and when it does close to the surface of the skin, it forms a plug and is known as a blackhead.
It is caused by excess oils that have accumulated in the sebaceous gland 's duct. Blackheads are typically caused by excessive oil and makeup.
The substance found in these bumps mostly consists of keratin and modified sebum
(an oily secretion of the sebaceous gland ),
which darkens (resembling dirt) as it oxidizes.
Blackheads are the slightly different sibling of zits, and like zits, squeezing them can be addictive.
Causes of Blackheads
Blackheads is caused when excess skin oil, sebum and congesting toxins are expelled through your skin from the blood and lymph fluid that supplies your skin with nutrients.
These congesting toxins combined with skin oil and sebum clogs your pores causing blackheads, whiteheads, and full blown acne.
Dirt also plays a big role in developing skin blackheads. The dirt stored on the face or other parts of body make the bacteria to develop. The dirt with oily skin makes things even worse.
Although food is not the cause of blackhead but doctor believe that there may be some role of food in it too.
Some people have a skin condition in which their skin cells don’t shed the way they should, creating a greater potential for blackheads. If you have this problem, it is especially important to exfoliate two or three times each week to help remove dead skin cells.
It is easy to squeeze a blackhead and believe we are extracting all that pore-clogging bacteria because we see something come out of the pore. But really, squeezing can push all that gunk and bacteria further back into the skin.
This means you haven’t gotten it all and the blackheads will probably come right back.
